Banana Republic French Navy + Fingerpaints Flakies

Hi guys!

The base for today's mani is Banana Republic French Navy. Love the name! It's a super dark blue shimmer. This picture was taken with flash to bring some of that out, but from a distance you would never guess this wasn't black!

My sweet husband recently picked me up the new Fingerpaints flakies for our anniversary. Below is a combo of Motley and Twisted layered over French Navy. I love the way this turned out and wore it for quite a while and still couldn't stop looking at it!

I love that flakies are becoming more easily available...but I feel like once you have one brand you don't need them all...like I don't feel like I need the new Zoya flakies because I have the Fingerpaints. I  kind of like it though because it's better for my wallet...well, my husband's wallet actually! haha

  1. I fully agree with you about not buying more than one set of flakies. Personally, I think Finger Paints really outdid themselves with the collection, and I'm done with buying flakies for a while. I prefer them because I can layer them over white, and no tint is left over on the base color. The Zoya collection will appear pink, blue, or green if you layer them over white. Finger Paints just show you the flakes. Bravo Finger Paints, bravo!

Of course, the old Hidden Treasure from Sally Hansen and Nubar 2010 work as well as Finger Paints, but they're not as readily available anymore.

  2. Thanks to your husband for buying these for your anniversary! How great is it when the man in our life finally gets it right with what to give as a gift?! No thinking on their part, just drive us to where ever we buy polish and pay the bill at the end. Perfect! Or shop for us and surprise us! If my husband bought me polish, I will get all the greens, his fav color!!

I am glad you mentioned that about the Finger Paints flakies and not needing to buy other brands. I bought one Finger Paint polish because I liked the color of their green. I was so surprised as to how nice the polish is. Your blog and my prior purchase will make it easier to buy some of the flakies! Thanks to you!! :)

I have all the FP flakies (except Flashy) and love them. But I have no will power and feel like I need the Zoya flakies =(

    1. I don't blame you at all..the price is great (esp with a Sally's card)...and who knows if FP will bring us more down the road? I am sure others will knock em off - I expect to see a China Glaze collection before the end of this year - it's just good $ for them to miss not doing a collection. Then there will a a bunch of lesser brand knock offs that I would not expect to have the oomph and glow that FP put in theirs despite they are a lower $ point brand. They surely HIT it with this collection!

  6. I love all of them, and haven't worn them all together yet because I'm afraid it will never dry! lol

    1. They will..just give each coat a chance to dry - they dry fast as they are thin. Then seal them in with either a good coat of SV or if you want Matte - got for Essie's Matte - I like SV over mine.

  8. Love this combo over the navy! I too have been having so much fun with my FP Special Effects. So nice your husband knew to get you something like this...he had to have planned ahead too as they are sold out at all the Sally's pretty much and have been for a # of weeks. That speaks loud for a man to plan ahead and not just think the day before or the day of!

  9. When I put flakes on my nails I also can't stop staring at them and it's true, when you have one bottle of them it's enough for a while
